After a couple of late breakfast mornings, camp arose for an early 8:00am breakfast so that campers had enough time to fully enjoy their first and second skill periods. Today was the first day since Monday that they had been to first and second skill periods, and campers were able to start the deeper journey of growth from the challenges that these activities present. The Climbing Skill was able to ascend up the wall for the first time, rockets started being assembled in Rocketry, and in the Photography skill campers learned about composition and the Rule of Thirds. The Waterfront was also bustling with excitement as the Paddleboard skill played Dodgeball and Swim Sports was filled with fun and games at the Waterfront.
After lunch and a rejuvenating Rest Period, it was time for Afternoon Activities! Deer Camp marched over to the Golf Course and pulled upon their endurance for a few rounds of Risk before heading over to Free Swim; meanwhile, the Birch tribe headed to Inspiration Point for the Slip-n-Slide and Buckeyes enjoyed waterfront rotations. The Sycamores also spent the afternoon enjoying time with their tribe while they played Hunger Games and Braveheart. The Poplar Tribe took a different course of action this afternoon as they spent it preparing for their Camp Out and departing for the Tribal Site.
Evening Activities kept the excitement rolling. The Buckeyes headed back to their lodge for movie night! The littlest campers enjoyed late night sweets and the epic movie, Big Hero Six. All the while their brother tribe, the Birches, played Braveheart on the Lacrosse Field. Deer Camp took over camp in Behind Enemy Lines where they searched for the Two Pilots and the Flight Recorder under the cover of darkness. Afterwards they headed to the Waterfront for a Night Swim. Just up the hill in the Brookside Gym, the remaining Mountain Camp tribe was competing in an intense game of Dodgeball.
As the night wound down and activities ended, camp entered into a time of reflection for the Evening Devotion. Today’s passage was Mathew 5:1-12, The Beatitudes-Jesus Teaches us about Blessings. As new friendships are being formed and campers look forward to the rest of the session together, this passage reminds them of all the blessings that come in positive as well as challenging circumstances.
