For more than 50 years, Camp Rockmont has provided a quality residential program for boys from around the world. Since 2009 we have provided the same level of care and intentional youth development to both boys and girls in our own back yard through a day camp program. The Rockmont Day Camp incorporates many aspects of our overall mission of growth: discovering new skills, exploring the natural world, and building a community that values each child. Daily activities include waterfront play, outdoor adventure, group games, and creative learning. We strive to help each camper discover that they are a child of God with a unique story to share.
From 8:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, up to 40 campers who are ages 6 through 10 join us for an uplifting day camp program that is staffed by 8 to 10 full-time day camp staff. They provide individual attention and unique experiences that day campers will remember for the rest of their lives! Meals and snacks are provided.
Rockmont is located on 550 acres at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond Swannanoa and one mile past Owen High School. Families may register online! For more information download the Rockmont Day Camp Fact Sheet Day Camp Facts .
Meet Our Day Camp Directors
Mistie Reising-Cogbill brings a wealth of experience to her position as Day Camp Director. She is a trained teacher who has worked in a variety of school settings and spends the school year playing with and caring for young children at a local Black Mountain preschool. Having served on the staff of two local camps prior to being discovered by Rockmont, Mistie is well aware of the unique culture of summer camp. She understands its capacity to change lives and loves to encourage children to take safe risks and develop new friends. She leads our Day Camp Program with joyfulness, humility, organization and intention. When Mistie isn’t at Rockmont, she enjoys hiking, traveling, gardening and reading with her husband, Phil, and their children, Maia and Max.
Forrest Johnson has a mile-wide smile and a deep love of teaching. His work as the Day Camp Assistant Director at Rockmont and a school teacher at The Learning Community provide ample opportunity to put his degrees in Outdoor Education and English to good use. He is skilled at planning and facilitating fun activities for children and is a tremendous asset to our staff. In addition to his outdoor pursuits, particularly rock climbing, Forrest loves to paint, write, and read French literature.
