RESPONSIBILITY on the part of each staff member is essential. Summer camp is not a vacation for staff.
While there are delightful moments, personal benefits, and financial compensation, it must be distinctly understood that a staff position at Rockmont means hard work, long hours, and definite responsibility. The serious responsibility assumed by a Camp Director for the welfare of the boys entrusted to his care justifies expecting a deep devotion to duty from his associates. The camp is run primarily for the boys and they are our first concern.
LOYALTY to the Directors and ideals of the camp on the part of the staff is absolutely necessary. Criticism of the camp equipment, management, program, food, or policies in the presence of the boys is inappropriate. Staff members are expected to take their troubles and grievances to the Directors. Helpful suggestions are always welcome.
CHARACTER of each staff member should be above reproach and worthy of emulation by boys. There is no place at Rockmont for questionable ideals, vulgar or profane language, smutty stories, pessimism, or poor sportsmanship. Each staff member is expected to conduct his/herself with the highest possible moral stature.
NEAT PERSONAL APPEARANCE is an important asset, and every staff member is expected to look and dress properly. Earrings are not allowed for male staff, and moderation is expected in the length of hair (the way it is kept affects the permissible length). Management must reserve the right to pass judgement on issues of personal appearance.
TOBACCO AND ALCOHOL use is not considered appropriate during your summer employment with Camp Rockmont. This includes the use of chewing tobacco. Resident Rockmont staff agree to abstain from the use of these substances entirely during the term of their summer employment.
ILLEGAL DRUGS AND DRUG ABUSE are not tolerated. An applicant represents himself or herself as a person who is not using and will not use illegal drugs.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION by a family or college physician is required within nine months of your arrival at camp, certifying that you are free from communicable diseases and able to to perform your responsibilities.
INSURANCE for care outside of our infirmary (medical & hospital) is your responsibility. When properly documented, work-related accidents are covered by Workers' Compensation.
TIME OFF amounts to at least 1 day and 1 night off during each session, and additional time off between each session. Days off begin after breakfast; nights off begin after supper. Days and nights off end at 12:30 a.m.
SORRY, PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
We will seek to communicate the principles of Christianity through your example. We need and welcome you, and encourage you to join the Camp Rockmont Staff!
